Autumn1 - Being Me in my Learning World
BEING ME IN MY LEARNING WORLD
During this topic we will be learning about Growth Mindset and Meta-cognition. We will be finding out how we learn best and how to train our brains to think positive. We will find out the importance of resilience, positivity and learning from our mistakes. Each week we will update this page letting you know what we have been up to.

This week has been very busy in Year 6! In maths, we have been learning about comparing fractions with different denominators and we also learnt how to add fractions.
In English, we were learning about stories with flashbacks. We watched a short film called 'The Piano', which included many flashbacks and we used this to write a story.
In RE, we began our new topic called 'Vocation and Commitment'. We about how some jobs are 'vocational', such as a doctor, nurse, teacher, police officer and priest. All of these jobs require a huge amount of commitment.

This week was amazing! We had lots of fun learning to do things such as short and long multiplication and story writing (which included setting descriptions and dialogue). In Guided Reading we have been reading a fantastic story called 'Private Peaceful'.
As part of our learning for Black History Month we have found out very interesting facts about Walter Tull. He was an inspiration to many - a professional football player who played for Tottenham Hotspur. He later fought in World War I and was killed in action during the Battle of the Somme.

This week in Year 6, we have learnt many things. In maths, we having been subtracting mixed decimals. In English, we have started our 'story writing' unit; we have spent this week writing powerful descriptions of settings and characters (linked to WW1). During P.E we have been doing athletics!
During our Growth Mindset lesson this week we learnt about the power of 'yet'. We now understand the importance of resilience and learning from our mistakes.
Our favourite lesson this week has been science - we learnt about Sound and how it travels through the air and through solid objects. Furthermore, we have now finished our RE topic, which was about 'Loving' (unconditional love)
